Jeff Trunkfield (Farm & Lambing) Reference
"To Whom It May Concern:Sarah happened upon me from September 2012, and has been helping for the last year. She comes on a Sunday morning helps, feeds, dehorns and participates in all practical day to day chores. She has learnt about medicine record keeping, breeding records for AI-ing and how to give intra-muscular and sub-cutaneous vaccinations. She was also heavily involved at lambing time and after a very brief intro did a superb job of looking after the lambing pens (helping deliver, iodining, spectram, ringing, colostrum etc.) and around the sheep at a very young age for that work. Sarah has proved competent at handling animals (sheep and cattle) and always does initial anal inspection prior to AI-ing- getting used to feeling cervix before serving to get the cow in calf. She has been a good member over the farm over the last year and I now trust her to perform all tasks that I ask."

Stables- updates!
Unfortunately, over the summer we lost two beautiful horses at the stables and they will be truly missed!
Charlie was a little pony with such a big character, he was loved by everyone and sadly died of a heart attack during the night.
Soren was a gorgeous horse who was one of the most talented horse we'd had at the stables. He would jump out of his skin just to please you, and both will be sorely missed. He died of dehydration/exhaustion after getting stuck in a ditch for more than 18 hours.
In addition, we also have had to give Danny back to his owners because he had a conditions called 'wobbles' where he had a blocked nerve in his spine.
New additions to the stables include:
Bobby, unbroken ten year old cob-
Bella, currently on part livery-
And Paddy, ex-racer-
At riding I have been helping every Saturday for the last three and a half years and riding for the last nine years and have had many responsibilities including:
- Taking out rides- generally for hour hacks round the beautiful countryside
- Teaching new riders
- Mucking out
- Feeding
- Grooming
- General care eg- putting on rugs, picking out hooves etc.
- Helping lead young novices
- Helping to run clubs for children eg- 'pony club' and 'picnic rides'
- Being around for help with most things! Such as bookings, queries, questions
I really enjoy helping at Hyfields and will continue to help there for as long as I can!
