Work Experience- Mid September.

I've been helping at Hyfield Stables since roughly mid 2010. During recent weeks I have been introduced to the two newest members at Hyfields Stables- Betty and Seamus. Betty is a 4 year old Cob X, 15hh (ish) and is Skewbald. Seamus is a 6 year old Warmblood X, 16hh (ish) and is Dark Bay. Seamus, within his second week at the stables, unfortunately got Ringworm. This was suspected to be passed along by the farrier which had come to fit his shoes. I saw how the marks, due to the ring worm, were circular rings, hence the name. He was isolated and fungal cream was put on twice a day. He got better within 4 days and people rode him soon after. My friend also took him hunting a few weeks after this and he did amazing! I've learned that ring worm (Dermatophytosis) is incredibly contagious and can be passed onto humans. I learnt a lot from this experience, but hopefully Seamus won't catch it again.
